Fernie was injured in this jump. He had a hard landing on the tarmac. Parachute jump are by nature dangerous. Be cautious out there. A lot of us are not young men. We do not bounce as well as young men do, or heal as fast. Fernie is going to get checked out by a doctor. He will call me afterwards and either he or I will update his status.

We had another more serious injury. One of our jumpers landed with his feet apart and broke his femur. This activity is a lot of fun but it can get serious in a hurry. Pay attention to your 5 points of performance, especially your PLF technique.
Overall, notwithstanding the injuries, the event was a success. We were scratched twice on Friday and Saturday but jumped in basically perfect conditions on Sunday. The D-Day Doll crew and CAF were very impressed with us. We established a good relationship and hope to jump with them again.
Personally I was able to perform operational duties at an airshow as a Jumpmaster and in flight duties as Safety, something I've been working towards for a long time. I need to pull Safety duties one more time and can then be an Assistant Jumpmaster in flight.
The prospect of having more jumps here in California took a giant leap forward.

Some pics from this weekend. My wife MAJ "Doc" Nevins. The Jumpmaster team, me and LTC Dave Hamilton. I don't have any pictures of the actual jump since I was in the aircraft the whole time. I'll post some when I get them.

Fernie was admitted into the Anaheim Memorial Medical Center for a fractured pelvis. The Doctor's want to keep him for a day or so. He said he is feeling better after getting a shot for the pain. If you want to call him to wish him well and do not have his number, send me a PM and I will give it to you.

Fractured Pelvis? Ouch. Fernie, Hey pard, take it easy, don't rush it and heal up! From what I know, the fracture tends to heal well but needs time.

Update: His pelvis is not fractured. He is just bruised and bumped up from a hard landing on the tarmac on one of his butt cheeks. He is on crutches, sore and in pain, and at home now.

Glad it was not more serious.
Figured you would like the patch. I've decided to go 82nd for my jump uniform.

Fernie Don't fly Delta or United, you will be very disappointed. They make you land WITH the plane.

More pics from the event. Performing my Safety duties in flight. My main job as Safety is to control the JM's and jumpers' static lines as they exit. If they went out the door with that static line around their neck or under their arm, that would be bad. View from the ground. Video from the event. vimeo.com/163359586

Also, I spoke to the other jumper today who was hurt. He had surgery to set the bone but will not need a cast. He expects to be discharged to travel home in the next day or so.

Felt like a Dick Butkus hit, this ain't for everybody and highly recommend some soul searching before deciding to jump combat style! Healing up at a slow pace but better as the days pass. Attachments:

Got my wish of being able to jump here in Kali and was selected by the Safety Officer Maj. Arentz to be at the door/first man out! #38 in the books.
