This weekend at our unit's WW2 Reenactment up at Big Bear Lake, Hutch gave me a 1942 dated "Strength for Service to God and Country". I was truly blessed to received a copy, but more it was period hand dated original copy. And doubly blessed when Matt had us circle up and I read one of the day's devotionals with our unit at night. Strength for Service was originally published in 1942, and over 720,000 copies were distributed to U.S. service men and women during WW2 and the Korean War before it went out of print. After the events of September 11, 2001 the General Commission on United Methodist Men partnered with Evan Hunsberger, who had a vision to republish the little devotional book as his Eagle Scout service project to honor his grandfather. Eugene Hunsberger, a Navy corpsman, read it to dying men on the battlefields of the Pacific during World War II. This updated version includes 40 additional entries, with over one million copies purchased by and distributed to deserving service members. Watch the video about how this Boy Scout has resurrected this fine historical devotional, which has become one of the most asked for items by our service men today. Not just military but also in the civilians branches of service. Sample Page

Dave,
I really loved that moment we shared as a unit. It felt like we were having a special time before the next day's battle.
I definitely look forward to having those readings again at the next battle.
Very nice write up and story! Thanks for sharing!

I agree with everyone else I loved the fact that we were able to praise The Lord before we went into battle. Can't wait for the next one Dave

I like to take credit, but it was Hutch foresight to know me well enough to know, I would want the small booklet. Also it was Hutch's idea to have me read it with our men at night.

Dave you had mentioned in the past and whether you thought I was listening or not :-) I heard you say that you'd like to have prayer before our battles and I knew this would be right up your alley! It was your initial comment that I took and ran with! It was your idea I just took it to the next level! It was a joint thought and a joint operation we both made this happen!
