FARBS - This guy's video is pretty simple but points out a common problem. That is taking something done once and a while and then making it a unit wide practice. That is making the uncommon... common

I think his point is the carbine was issue to particular personnel, it was not a weapon of choice. Yet many reenactors "units" can have a imbalance of them in their combat squad based units.
This weapon utilized a small, specially designed .30 caliber bullet which was considered a compromise between a pistol and a rifle. The carbines, which were usually issued to officers and men assigned to crew-served weapons like M.G.s and mortars, were the subject of many complaints. They lacked knockdown power, even at short range, and were frequently discarded in disgust.
regarding the carbine ... negative reports began to surface with airborne operations in Sicily in 1943

Officers, radiomen, crew served weapons used carbines, some chose the M1 rifle anyway.....M1 Rifle was most common.
This kids on the right track, but speaking in general terms..you have to look at the specific unit and see what was common..lots of variations between airborne units, so you can't lump them all into one...lots of variations between campaigns as well.

Good point on the passage of time, i.e. campaigns. In reenacting weapon selection is a function of convenience and cost. One thing is for sure if Thompsons were "really available" and cost only $300, you could bet everyone in a unit would have one. and wouldn't matter what the guy's role or rank was.

There is documentation that the rank did not determine if a person had a Thompson. The Officers and NCO's got first crack. If there were any left over, then they were issued out.

also the Rangers and the jump boots depends on the unit the 5th was almost equipped to a man with jump boots. also im with the m4 weapons holds but every thing else BS. And as much as we need to up authenticity I dont think they (the "Farbs" I enjoy Hoaky because of the period correct term) should be railed against they should be corrected or ignored. because the simple fact is we can change yourselves not anybody else
