As some of you know, in October, several of the ADT members here met with the Commemorative Air Force Inland Empire Wing (CAF-IEW) to, among other things, agree on dates for future operations. The ADT and CAF-IEW have agreed to go to each other first with respect to conducting any jump operations in California. Our goal is to be able to conduct training jumps and air shows here on the west coast. CAF-IEW is very enthusiastic about supporting our jump operations. With enough support from ADT members here, we could be doing training jumps as often as we want, perhaps once every other month.
We have tentatively identified dates for training jumps to be conducted at either Elsinore Skydive in Riverside, California, or Perris Skydive in Perris, California. The dates for these jumps are February 6, 2016, and March 12, 2016. I have asked the ADT Board for approval to conduct these training events.
In addition, CAF-IEW has asked for our support at three air shows next year; the Riverside Air Show on April 2, 2016, the Chino Planes of Fame Air Show on April 29-May1, 2016, and the Camarillo Air Show (mid-August, date TBD). I have asked ADT-FAAF to approve team participation at these air shows. The Chino event is intended to be our main effort.
CAF-IEW has also invited ADT members to their Christmas party on December 12, 2015, at their hangar in Riverside, beginning at 18:00 hours. Details will be forthcoming.
In order to jump at an air show you will need the required 35 minimum jumps The training jumps will be open to all current jumpers. And of course we will need support from our ground team members to serve as DZSO, drop zone support team (DZST) and drop zone support team leader (DZSTL).
We have not yet determined what level of recurrency training will be offered, if at all, in connection with the ADT-W training jumps. However, one of the goals of having a western platoon is to eventually be able to offer recurrency and refresher training at a location that is closer and more convenient for western region members than Frederick, OK. I anticipate providing at least basic airborne refresher training in connection with each training jump. If we have enough current or former members here who require long refresher training in order to participate in a training jump we will look at what needs to be done to conduct that training here rather than at Frederick.
I will keep you all informed of our efforts. Once we receive Board approval, a WARNO and manifest will be published. In the meantime, please contact me with any questions you may have. For our former members, if you want to get your knees back in the breeze, you may very well have the opportunity soon to do that here in California. If you would like to renew your membership, but not as a jump team member, we still need your support on the drop zone support team (DZST).
Here are some pictures from our October meeting at CAF-IEW.
I think we are going to have a lot of fun here next year.
