Traces of War is an excellant site. It allows you to go to street level to 100's of World War II sites, monuments, and markers throughout Europe, Africa and elsewhere. It's the Mother Lode of Google Based travel of World War II Sites en.tracesofwar.com/default.aspHere is one example the Bridge at La Fiere, which was famous to the 82nd Airborne, and vocal to a new movie currently in production. The bridge appears to be no big deal, but during the war boths sides were flooded and the road and bridge were critcial. Also as you do these Google base trips, you will be amazed how in many cases the land hasn't changed much.

That is a great photo Dave. The countryside looks a lot like Ireland.

Yeah Mike,
just the summer before we had gone to a reunion that Terry put together for Dick McDonald and Mike Hanley. Both were in the 507th together and Dick swore he saw Mike get killed by MG fire on the bridge. As it turned out Mike survived and Terry reunited them after almost 60 years. Pretty F'ing Awesome!!!!

Dave, this is very cool...keep these up!
The story of the fighting at the La Fiere bridge/causeway is well chronicled in Robert Murphy's book: No Better Place to Die. The fight at La Fiere involved mostly A Company, 1st Battalion, 505th; but elements of B Company 1st Battalion (our unit) were also present in the fight at La Fiere.
This fight is also the subject of an upcoming film that will have Dale Dye in his directoral debut, also entitled No Better Place To Die.
Check out the book: The First Men In: US Paratroopers and the Fight to Save D-Day. This book is also by Ed Ruggero. It chronicles well, not only the sction at La Fiere, but heavily and specifically details the 82nd's actions on D-Day.
