I talked to a guy today that was in the 82nd and he told me that some guys had a coin sewn under their airborne patch on the garrison cap. I can't find any reference about this. Has anyone heard of this ?

Yes. All of us do that because that was what was done. In my case, it's a 1923 silver dollar.

Purpose behind it was to use them as a "sap" in bar fights with legs infantry !
