Hello,
My name is Francisco (Franky) Ortega, I'm 31 and live in the San Fernando Valley, just north of Los Angeles. My World War II background includes serving as a high school World History/AP World History teacher for the past 8 years. I have led a student tour to the beaches of Normandy and various places in Europe. I'm National Board Certified in Social Studies and have done a small amount of studying on my own. I own a Springfield 1903 and M1 Garand as well.
I'm looking to gain a great appreciation of the historical 82nd Airborne. I'm interested in learning more about what it was like to be a paratrooper. I'm also interested later on in perhaps attending a paratroop skydiving school and participate in events.
I have not been in contact with veterans and have no previous re-enactment experience except of course within my history classroom. I don't have a family, just a single guy. I do however participate in several other extracurricular activities from being on a Salsa dance performance team to mountain biking, traveling (I'll be in Southeast Asia for a month this summer).
To sum myself up... I'm attracted to learning.
Hope this is a decent introduction of myself. Any questions?
Franky

Welcome to the forums Francisco. We have several members that live in your area. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Also, please get with one of our members before buying any gear or uniforms. We prefer that you only buy the correct stuff. We all work hard for our money. We don't want you to waste any of yours buying stuff you cannot use. Your M1 Garand is perfect for reenacting. One of our members will contact you with their phone numbers also.

Hi Frankie, I live just North of you in Valencia. While I don't dance Salsa, do spend a lot of time with the wife dancing WCS out in the valley. Welcome to our forums, you'll find this is a great group of guys who balance family, fun and faith all together.

Thanks for the replies. I look forward to meeting up with someone to go over the gear that I'll need. I'll be heading out to Utah first for a week on June 9th for a gig with CollegeBoard then to Southeast Asia until July 10th. I'll be able to attend an event after July.

Also Frank as pointed out, check out our Parent Organization's Event Page. You can see we have a very nice selection of events, and the only Armored Events on the West Coast. www.chgww2.net/events/
